Mountain Rescue

Mountain Rescue (MR) Programs

These courses cover training and operating procedures in Class III to Class V environments. Each of these courses are entry level with the exception of the Winter Mountain Rescue Technician.

Mountain Rescue Awareness

$85

During this 6 to 8 hour virtual or in-person classroom based course you'll learn what's involved and how a mountain rescue incident is facilitated. From inter-agency response to complex system demonstrations, this course covers all of the hows and whys to a mountain rescue incident.


Prerequisites for these courses are: 

  • 18 years of age or older
  • CPR
  • FEMA IS-100.c
  • FEMA IS-NIMS 700.b
  • SAR Helicopter Ops for Responders

Mountain Rescue Operations

$250

During this 2 day (16 hour) course you'll learn how to operate with, or alongside, an MR unit. We'll cover patient/subject access, stabilization, and extraction methods for a single or 2 person responding team. This course format is 2 days of field work.


Prerequisites for these courses are: 

  • 18 years of age or older
  • CPR
  • FEMA IS-100.c
  • FEMA IS-NIMS 700.b
  • Wilderness First Aid
  • Class V climbing/rappelling experience
  • STOP THE BLEED
  • NASAR SAR-TECH III

Mountain Rescue Technician

$325

During this 3 day (24 hour course you'll learn the equipment, systems, applications, and procedures on running an efficient MR incident in any environment. This course covers systems and procedures for Class III to V terrain. The format of this course is 2 evening virt sessions with 2 days of field work.


Prerequisites for these courses are: 

  • 18 years of age or older
  • CPR
  • FEMA IS-100.c
  • FEMA IS-NIMS 700.b
  • Wilderness First Responder or state EMR
  • Class V climbing/rappelling experience
  • STOP THE BLEED

Winter Mountain Rescue Technician

$385

During this 3 day (24 hour) course you'll learn the equipment, systems, applications, and procedures on running an efficient MR incident in a permanent snow-covered, non-permanent snow-covered, glaciated or ice covered environment.  This course is only run from December 27 until March 31st.


Prerequisites for these courses are: 

  • 18 years of age or older
  • CPR
  • FEMA IS-100.c
  • FEMA IS-NIMS 700.b
  • Wilderness First Responder or state EMR
  • Mountain Rescue Technician
  • AIARE Level I
  • Mountain Weather DLC

Remote Rescue Technician (RRT)

This certification is for responders who possess all of the below prerequisites and credentials. The RRT is for responders who operate or respond to incidents in remote, technical, and/or wilderness environments. All of the below credentials will be verified/audited to be sure they are current. You can email all of your information to nrrieducation@gmail.com for verification. Once your audit is complete, you will receive an email with details on the next steps.

Requirements

$99 annually

To obtain this credential/certification you must obtain the following:

  • State certified EMT or NR-EMT
  • Wilderness EMT or WFR
  • Mountain Rescue Technician
  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician
  • CPR
  • FEMA IS-100, 200 & 700
  • NASAR SAR-TECH II
  • STOP THE BLEED
  • HAZMAT AWR-358
  • SAR Helicopter Operations or A-101 Safety
