Each Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) course has its own prerequisites. Please check the list under each course for details.
This course can be conducted virtually or in-person. This course covers the basics of recognizing hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction. It also covers the risks associated with HAZMAT and WMD's.
Prerequisites:
- 18 years of age or older
- ICS 200
- CPR
HAZMAT Operations involves defensive measures to protect people, property, and the environment from the effects of hazardous materials releases. This includes identifying hazards, implementing institutional controls like evacuations, and using various defensive techniques like diking and fencing. Operations-level responders also assist in rescue operations, provide emergency medical treatment, and participate in decontamination and cleanup. This course is 16 hours/2 days.
A Hazmat Technician is a trained professional who responds to releases and/or potential releases of hazardous materials to stop or control the release. They are equipped with specialized knowledge and skills to handle hazardous substances, including identification, containment, and decontamination.
