Canyon Rescue Programs

canyon rescue

Canyon rescue operations are widely regarded as among the most technically demanding rescue disciplines within wilderness environments. These incidents typically require the implementation of complex rope, rigging, and access systems, often in confined, vertical, and environmentally dynamic terrain. When swiftwater is present, additional hazards—including hydraulics, variable flow rates, limited egress options, and elevated risk to rescuers—further increase operational complexity. Our Canyon Rescue programs are specifically designed for experienced canyoneers and qualified responders, focusing on advanced techniques, risk management, and operational decision-making required to safely and effectively conduct rescues in these challenging environments.

Canyon Rescue Programs

These courses are for responders operating in or responding to incidents in a canyon or riverine environment. These rescue courses cover access, stabilization, patient packaging and extraction of a subject from a canyon or high angle, riverine environment. We recommend you acquire an FCC GMRS or HAM radio operators license before enrolling in these courses.

Canyon Rescue Awareness

$75

This 3-4 hour in-person or virtual course is classroom based covering the knowledge necessary when arriving at an incident in a canyon environment. This course is for canyoneers, first responders, rangers and/or outdoor enthusiasts.

Our Cold Environment Based Focus

When operating or responding in cold weather or arctic environments, multiple factors must be addressed to ensure optimal performance and operational efficiency. Foundational elements include physical fitness, appropriate footwear, and properly layered clothing systems designed for cold-weather operations. Building upon these fundamentals, units must develop terrain-specific movement and navigation skills suited to permanent snowfields, seasonal snow cover, tundra, and glaciated environments.

Our experience includes working alongside special operations forces, special forces units, and other specialized teams conducting missions in these demanding conditions. Proficiency in cold-weather survival, mobility, and terrain negotiation is essential for safe, effective, and sustained operations in cold and arctic environments.

Our Team

Our arctic and cold weather instructors bring years of professional experience conducting operations, training, and emergency response in cold-weather and arctic environments across mountainous regions worldwide.

Our Services

Cold weather and arctic survival; cold-weather footwear and layered clothing systems; ice climbing; glacier travel and rescue operations; cold-weather aerial insertion and extraction; remote medicine in cold environments; snow climbing; snowshoeing; skiing; and additional advanced cold-weather operational skills.

    Wilderness & Remote Medicine

wilderness medicine, wilderness first aid, wfa, wfr wilderness first responder

    What is Wilderness Medicine?

Wilderness medicine is generally defined as medical care provided in environments where access to definitive medical treatment is delayed by two or more hours. Many front-country settings—despite their proximity to roads or urban areas—still meet this definition due to the complexities involved in patient access and extraction. Challenging terrain, dense vegetation, and significant topographical variation can substantially extend evacuation times, making timely access to definitive care difficult even in seemingly accessible locations.

We offer Wilderness First Aid (WFA) courses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania on a regular basis. WFA, and other courses, are offered in various locations around the United States.

    Wilderness & Remote Medicine (WRM)

Prerequisite minimums for all levels are 18 years of age or older and current CPR certification.
